Candidates are lining up to run in a special election for an open state Senate seat.

Gov. Scott Walker issued an executive order Thursday scheduling special elections to fill open seats in the 1st Senate District and the 42nd Assembly District. Walker had resisted calling the elections but a Madison judge ordered him to schedule them by noon Thursday.

Walker scheduled primaries for May 15 and the general special elections for June 12.
