Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke made stops in Eau Claire, Superior, Stevens Point, Green Bay and Madison on Monday as part of a last-minute effort to get people to the polls.
At her Superior stop, around 40 people rallied to see Burke in the final stretch of her bid for governor. Warren Bender, a spokesman for the Douglas County Democrats, said they’re doing everything they can to get people out to vote: “Literature drops, door knocks and phone calls — all those things are being done.”
Bender said that he supports Burke on education and would like to see collective bargaining rights restored for teachers and public workers.

Joey Luder of Superior and his grandmother Patricia were also among those attending the rally. They said education is also at the top on their list of reasons of why they’re voting for Burke.
“I have family members who lost a lot of income a month thanks to Scott Walker,” said Joey Luder.
Said Patricia Luder: “I’m worried about how Walker has taken money away from the public school system and given away to the private schools and parochial schools.”
When she spoke, Burke talked about giving everyone in the state a fair shot to get ahead by improving access to higher education and ensuring equal opportunities for women.
“These are the important issues that we are facing in Wisconsin, along with a lagging economy,” said Burke.
Supporters at the campaign stop also touted Burke’s business experience and role as commerce secretary under Gov. Jim Doyle.
