Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin said that she’s happy a controversial railroad bridge in Milwaukee will be repaired, though she remains concerned about other aging rail bridges in the state.
Canadian Pacific said Monday it will make upgrades to a 99 year-old rail bridge that oil train critics have dubbed “Rusty.” The railroad says the upgrades stem from an inspection process the company started last year.
On Tuesday, Baldwin pointed to her efforts to get the Federal Railroad Administration to step in — but added that she doesn’t care who gets the credit for the repairs to the bridge.

“I think the fact that there was public attention given to this issue by city leaders and by the media meant that there was a big spotlight on Canadian Pacific,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin said she next hopes Congress will finish work on a transportation funding bill that would let the FRA have regular access to company bridge inspection documents, and to be able to share the reports with local officials.
