Experimental Lakes Area; Archaeology of Minnesota

Featured in this Show

  • Experimental Lakes Area

The Experimental Lakes Area is a series of pristine lakes in northern Canada that have been the source of a series of experiments dealing with the pollution of fresh water. The scientific discoveries at the ELA have led to policy changes in Canada, the United States and Europe that deal with issues like acid rain and non-point source pollution. Dr. David Schindler was the first director in the ELA and talks about some of the work that’s been done there, and changes in the way politicians have responded to science.

  • Archaeology of Minnesota

Dr. Guy Gibbon is a professor emeritus in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Minnesota. He’s written several books including “Archaeology of Minnesota” in which he traces the population of the Upper Mississippi River region during the prehistoric period. Gibbon is a Milwaukee native who was involved in an early archaeological dig in the La Crosse area in Midway in the 1960’s.
