JOB SUMMARY
Wisconsin Public Media is hiring two full-time accountants! This is a great opportunity for number crunchers. You’ll spend your days preparing financial and statistical reports where your debits will always equal your credits. Other duties will include developing and managing complex budgets, developing and documenting controls for accounting systems to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of the WPM’s financial transactions. You will also be a resource for others.

You’ll join a team of fun-loving, hard-working finance folks who support the great work of our colleagues at PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio providing multimedia content for the citizens of Wisconsin.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred; CPA certification or eligibility preferred.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 4 years in a financial-related position with experience in 2 or more of the following: compiling and managing complex financial statements, managing complex audits and reconciliations, full charge of general ledger, annual reporting, GAAP and GASB compliance, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with automated accounting systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 or more years working in an accounting position for a non-profit entity or auditing non-profit entities
- 2 or more years working in an accounting position for a university or governmental organization or auditing universities or government organizations
- 2 or more years experience as a financial statement auditor or in preparing financial statements or support documents for auditors
- Experience compiling combined financial statements
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs complex accounting duties, prepares financial and statistical reports, delivers training to others, develops and/or manages complex budgets, and develops and documents controls for accounting systems to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions. May lead and be a resource for others in their department/unit.
- Leads and executes the development, organization, preparation, and updating of complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions (25%)
- Prepares and analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, and recommends solutions as needed (15%)
- Monitors automated financial systems, develops, and documents controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity (10%)
- Performs complex accounting and auditing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports (10%)
- Develops and manages complex work unit budgets, analyzing funding sources, operational needs, budget trends, and financial commitments (5%)
- Forecasts budget balances and recommends corrective action as needed (5%)
- Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures (10%)
- Facilitates trainings and provides financial guidance to management and staff (5%)
- Serves as lead accountant in preparation of financial statements and acts as liaison with independent auditors during annual financial audit (15%)
SALARY
Expected salary range for this position is $65,000 up to mid to high $80’s for highly experienced candidates who exceed the qualifications. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
