Latest Marquette Poll Shows Walker Ahead By Seven Points
The latest Marquette University Law School poll released on Wednesday has Gov. Scott Walker leading Democrat Mary Burke 50 to 43 percent.
The 7-point margin represents a change from the last poll, in which Walker and Burke were neck-and-neck — a shift linked to projected voter turnout and movement among independent voters.
Among registered voters, the poll shows the governor leading by only 1 point.

Attorney General Race Still Close
The attorney general race between Republican Brad Schimel and Democrat Susan Happ remains very close, with Schimel leading Happ 43 to 39 percent, according to Wednesday’s Marquette University Law School poll.
Among likely voters, the two are tied at 40 percent, with 14 percent still undecided. Many voters still don’t seem to know enough about either candidate to form an opinion.

Early Voting Ends: A Look At The Numbers
Friday marked the final day of in-person absentee voting, also known as early voting, in Wisconsin.
As of that morning, 240,308 absentee ballots had been cast. Of those, just over 173,000 were cast in a clerk’s office while just under 67,000 were sent in by mail.
While these are preliminary numbers, they currently exceed those of the 2012 recall election. The Government Accountability Board expects around 2.5 million people to eventually cast ballots in the midterm elections.

DNR Orders Review Of Frac Sand Petition
A group of western Wisconsin residents and an environmental group submitted a petition to the Natural Resources Board this week asking it to direct the state Department of Natural Resources to submit a full environmental report of the impacts of the frac sand industry.
Board Chairman Preston Cole has directed the DNR to review the petition and report back to the board with its recommendations.

Milwaukee ranks among the worst in the nation for unemployment, health disparities, incarceration rates, and educational outcomes for minority males. In September, President Obama called on communities around the country to embrace the “My Brother’s Keeper” challenge to improve the life outcomes of minority males. Milwaukee is responding with the nation’s first ever “Boys and Men of Color Week.” The week is dedicated to bringing diverse organizations together to help tackle challenges facing the community.
