In 1917 UW-Madison professor Earle M. Terry founded the university's radio operations using the call letters 9XM, which developed into Wisconsin Public Radio. Since then WPR has grown into three statewide networks -- the Ideas Network, NPR News & Classical Music, and WPR HD Classical Music -- broadcasting from 34 stations with over 460,000 listerners tuning in each week. WPR.org streams all three networks live, reaching another 69,000 listeners every week.
Ideas Network
The Ideas Network was established more than 20 years ago, pioneering community engagement through regional, statewide and national call-in shows that focus on everything from current events, science, technology and pop culture.
NPR News & Classical Music
WPR's trusted and informative news programs include "Morning Editon," "All Things Considered" and "Marketplace," plus 79 minutes of state and local news every weekday. Classical music can be enjoyed every day, evening, and overnight.
WPR HD Classical
Enjoy classical music 24/7 on HD Radio or online.
Local Presence
Strengthening Wisconsin's communities remains essential to WPR's mission. Regional offices located in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Wausau, La Crosse, Eau Claire and Superior bring listeners a daily conversation about Wisconsin. Local shows and reporters provide listeners with relevant programs and news in touch with their communities.
National Presence
WPR is home to three national programs -- "Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?," "To the Best of Our Knowledge" and "Zorba Paster on Your Health." These shows are heard by about 1.5 million listeners every week.
