Much of Wisconsin spent Tuesday morning digging out from the previous night’s winter storm.

More than 11 inches of snow fell in Green Bay, more than 9 inches in Fond du Lac and 7 to 10 inches to the west. The storm also stranded air travelers at airports in Wisconsin.

But some residents of Wausau, in the north-central part of the state, welcomed the first major snowfall of the season.

Paul Field, shoveling the 6 inches of new snow off the sidewalk in front of his home on Wausau’s east side, said he doesn’t mind.

“That’s how we’re getting our exercise today. Look forward to finally getting some cross country skiing in, and we’re excited to finally have snow,” said Field.

A couple of blocks away, Jeff Kneser, recently retired, turned off his snow blower, and headed inside.

“I’ll probably drag my snowshoes out and go have some fun frolicking, possibly with my grandson, who I just made some snowshoes for Christmas,” Kneser said.

Vicki Karo said the warm weather and the rain has made it difficult to get into the holiday spirit.

“It’s about time. I live in Wisconsin for a reason. I like snow,” she said.

And as the cliché goes, it’s better late than never.
