  • State Assembly Passes Elections Overhaul Amid Partisan Discord

    Democrats in the state Assembly took a bold move in opposition to a new campaign finance law Wednesday night. The entire caucus recused itself from the vote, citing a statute that bars public officials from taking action that affects their financial interests.

    The law would raise contribution limits to candidates among other changes that would likely increase the amount of money spent in elections and on issue advocacy. The Assembly also voted Wednesday night to dismantle the bi-partisan Government Accountability Board.

The Wisconsin Survey measured how the public feels about both approaches, with an overwheming majority of respondents saying they’d like to keep the position as an elected one. An education analyst digs deeper into the results, and how we got here in the first place.
