Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler is laying the groundwork for her re-election bid next year.

In a press release, Ziegler announced the formation of a campaign steering committee. Most of the prominent names are Republicans, including former Gov. Tommy Thompson and Mike Grebe, the former president of the conservative Bradley Foundation. The list also includes Cory Nettles, who was former Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle’s commerce secretary.

Ziegler is part of the court’s 5-2 conservative majority. She won her supreme court seat in 2007, defeating Attorney Linda Clifford of Madison. In many ways, Ziegler’s race marked the beginning of big money in Wisconsin Supreme Court politics, especially among third party groups who spent heavily both for her and against her.
