“We want stability out there, and we think our National Guard, which is some of the best trained in the country and the world, are perfectly suited to fulfill that mission,” he said, citing concerns in Washington over recent military actions by North Korea.

According to the National Guard, the purpose of the mission is to “enhance regional security” and show a commitment to peace in the area.

Also Wednesday, Walker announced a trade mission to South Korea and Japan. The mission will take place in September, and will include executives from eight Wisconsin companies.

The mission will be one of five similar trips over the next year hosted by the state economic development agency.
