Wisconsin American Red Cross Volunteers Lend A Hand In Louisiana, California

More Volunteers Expected To Be Sent To Affected Areas Soon

By

More trained volunteers from Wisconsin’s American Red Cross are helping victims of flooding in Louisiana and wildfires in California.

Forty five trained Red Cross responders have been sent out to help so far. American Red Cross spokeswoman Barbara Behling said volunteers were first deployed to Louisiana last weekend to assist residents displaced by flooding that has damaged at least 40,000 homes.

“They were supporting the sheltering activities whether they were providing some health services, emotional support, making sure that people had a cot to sleep on, blankets and pillows, making sure people were fed,” Behling said.

Volunteers are also responding to California’s Blue Cut fire, which has burned nearly 100 homes. Behling says more volunteers will be flown out to Louisiana and California in the days to come.
