Latest Marquette Poll Shows Burke, Walker In Dead Heat
According to the latest Marquette University Law School poll, the gubernatorial race between incumbent Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke is tighter than ever.
The poll showed the two candidates each polling at 47 percent among likely voters, marking a significant change from a previous poll which showed Walker leading by five points.
Observers ascribe the change mainly to a shift among Independents: while they supported Walker 53 to 40 percent previously, they now support Burke 45 to 44 percent.

In Race For Attorney General, Schimel And Happ Are In Close Tie
The latest poll shows attorney general contenders Brad Schimel and Susan Happ neck-and-neck among likely voters, at 42 percent each.
Unlike the gubernatorial race, this contest has a significant percentage of undecided voters — 16 percent. Pollsters attribute this largely to a lack of name recognition for both candidates.

Mary Burke Shuns Doyle Policies
In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial board this week, Mary Burke actively distanced herself from former Gov. Jim Doyle, under whom she served as secretary of commerce.
She criticized Doyle for tuition hikes during his time in office, for raiding the transportation fund and for raising taxes on wealthy Wisconsinites — a criticism that surprised observers, given her recent criticisms of Walker for offering tax breaks to the rich.

Police Officer Fired For Killing Unarmed Milwaukee Man
Officer Christopher Manney, who shot and killed Dontre Hamilton in a Milwaukee park last April, was fired this week. The case, which set off set of a series of protests, has been closely watched by people in Milwaukee and elsewhere.
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said Manney was dismissed for failing to follow correct procedure. The Hamilton family welcomed the announcement, but Dontre’s brother Nathaniel has called on the Milwaukee County district attorney to file criminal charges.
