Wisconsin Public Radio had high hopes for returning to the Bayflield Apple Fesitval this year and actually had a booth set up on the first day of the three-day event. But gale force winds were too much for the frame, which broke in several places overnight inspite of being reinforced and anchored with concrete blocks.
"We were pretty disappointed," said WPR regional manager John Munson. "We were looking forward to talking with all the great folks at the Apple Festival but without the tent we would have been standing in the rain and that wouldn't have worked."
But what about the prizes, you might ask?
"We collected quite a few entries on Friday, but not anywhere near as many as we would have over three days," Munson said. "We're going to extend the drawing to this Thursday and people can enter via email. Click on the link or send an e-mail to kgustafs@uwsuper.edu with the words "PRIZE DRAWING" in the subject line. Be sure to include your full name and a phone number. Entries received by 11 a.m. Thursday will be accepted, and the drawing will be held before noon on Thursday. Winners will be notified by e-mail or telephone.
"We're going to get our tent fixed and try to be back next year. Hopefully, we'll have better luck," Munson added.
