Gov. Scott Walker is responding to claims from his likely Democratic election opponent that he doesn’t care about most Wisconsinites.

A recent Marquette University poll found that 51 percent of respondents indicated Walker didn’t care about people like them. Only 43 percent said he does care. Democratic candidate Mary Burke knows that U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin had some success in portraying Tommy Thompson as being in it for himself during the 2012 U.S. Senate race, and Burke has started to highlight the Marquette result about Walker.

Walker says he has cut state taxes, expanded voucher schools, and helped create jobs.

“People can say all they want, but in the end the facts show that on taxes, on job creation, on health care and education and so many other areas, we’ve done more than talk about it – we’ve shown our caring by our actions,” said Walker.

Walker is currently on a statewide tour formally announcing his re-election campaign, and Mary Burke has scheduled media interviews to try to keep up her attack on the governor’s record and promote her own plans.

The Marquette poll showed about a third of state voters say they don’t know if Burke cares about them.
