Walker Says He Approves Of We Energies’ Purchase Of Integrys

Governor Says That Acquisition Still Needs State Approval

Gov. Scott Walker said he supports the $9 billion purchase of Integrys Energy Group by Milwaukee-based utility We Energies.

He said he’s pleased that the resulting company, to be called WEC Group Incorporated, will stay in the state.

“I think it would be good for us as employers in the state,” said Walker. “It would be good for rate payers because there is more efficiencies they could bring to the table.”

Walker said the merger still needs state approval.

“We’ve got a regulatory process, so we’re going to do that thoroughly through the Public Service Commission,” he said “So, we can’t guarantee that it’s going to be approved until they submit their paper work.”

A trade organization of energy consumers known as the Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group says it will work closely with regulators to ensure the deal makes sense for energy customers.
