Voters Approve 3 School Renovation Referendums, Reject 2

Wisconsin voters went to the polls Tuesday to vote on tax increases to help fund school renovation projects, approving three of five referendums across the state.

Proposals in Balsam Lake, Shawano and Potosi passed. However, a Boscobel referendum to improve school energy efficiency was about 30 votes shy of passing, and Peshtigo’s request for $33 million to replace its almost 80-year-old middle- and high-school building was shot down.

Peshtigo School District Superintendent Kim Eparvier said he’s still optimistic.

“We had 48 percent of the voters make a statement that it’s the right solution. We just have to figure out what part of that solution people were having difficulty with and perhaps try and address that the next time around,” said Eparvier.

Both Peshtigo and Boscobel school districts are likely to come back with another referendum in the spring.
