The Republican speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly said Gov. Scott Walker’s frequent out-of-state travel has not kept the governor from staying in touch with lawmakers.
Walker holds few public events in Wisconsin these days as he ramps up his travel to states like Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida in the early stages of a likely presidential bid.
But Speaker Robin Vos said Walker’s cabinet secretaries and staff are always available to the Legislature, and the governor himself talks regularly with legislative leaders.

“I talked to Gov. Walker on the phone, just like I have in the past. We meet on a regular basis. I think the next meeting’s tomorrow — we try to meet every week we’re in session,” Vos said. “That’s occurred almost every single time. Once in a while, my schedule gets in the way or his does, but that’s just natural with busy people. So I would say he’s just as accessible as he has always been.”
Vos said he doesn’t need to hear from the governor on a daily basis on an issue like the state budget, since that’s now in the Legislature’s hands.
