UW Enrollment Declines

By

Enrollment is on the decline at some University of Wisconsin colleges and universities. Spokesman David Giroux says the rising cost of tuition and a population dip are primarily to blame. The UW-River Falls took the largest hit with a decline of around 6 percent. UW-Milwaukee enrollment is down 3 percent. Two year colleges are also seeing about a 3 percent drop in students. Giroux says schools are expected to focus on recruiting. He says more emphasis should also be placed on financial aid, “One of the things we need to do a better job of is communicating to our prospective students about the availability of financial aid, that the price they see published on the window sticker might not be the actual price they pay as an incoming UW student.

Other UW schools remained flat or saw very small increases. UW-Whitewater was the only school to post a record year for enrollment.
