9XM:THE FOUNDATION OF WPR
Wisconsin Public Radio began in 1917, when Earl M. Terry and his physics students first transmitted music and voice using handmade vacuum tubes. At that time WPR was known as Radio Station 9XM. 9XM became WHA-AM, the flagship for what is now a 34 station statewide Wisconsin Public Radio Network.
