Students Block Madison Street To Protest Police Shooting

Dane County District Attorney Is Currently Deciding Whether To Press Charges Against Officer Matt Kenny

High school students are blocking one of Madison’s main thoroughfares to protest the death of an unarmed biracial man at the hands of a white police officer last month.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that dozens of students from East and West High Schools began blocking East Washington Avenue on Tuesday morning and were still in the street as the evening rush hour began. East Washington links the city’s east side with the downtown and state Capitol building. Police said they’re monitoring the situation.

Madison Police Officer Matt Kenny shot 19-year-old Tony Robinson in an apartment house near the Capitol on March 6. Police said Robinson attacked Kenny. Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne is weighing whether to file charges against Kenny.
