The Story Of Indian Music

O. Gosvami’s book “The Story Of India Music” is a well-written text perhaps best suited for college students or a reader who has more than just a passing interest in Indian Music. I’m just beginning to read it after skimming over the entire work. Because the book discusses Indian music indepth, social conditions, psychological aspects of music and the author’s interpretations, I’m reading it slowly – three or four pages at a time in order to ingest and process his discoveries and claims. It is quite comprehensive and a solid choice for those curious about the history and development of Indian culture as well. Shri O. Gosvami’s extensive travels, familiarity with sacred ancient Indian texts and his command of several Indian and European languages adds to the intrigue of the book. As of the date of this post, used copies are available online from various venders.
