A proposal that could make it easier to access oil derived from the cannabis plant is on its way to Gov. Scott Walker’s desk.

The plan would make it legal to possess cannabidiol in Wisconsin as long as a doctor signed off. Some parents use the oil, known as CBD oil, to treat their kids’ severe seizure disorders.

Menomonee Falls Republican Janel Brandtjen told her colleagues the plan was about helping people who are suffering.

“They suffer with these seizures,” Brandtjen said. “Not only the children, their families.”

The plan passed the Assembly unanimously and already passed the Senate.

The bill would not legalize the manufacture or sale of CBD oil in Wisconsin, so users would need to travel to adjacent states to legally buy it.
