In the early 1800s, Juliette Magill Kinzie gave up a life of luxury for a log cabin in the Wisconsin outback–documenting the stories of the fur traders, Ho-Chunk Indians and fellow frontiersmen she met along the way. Her adventurous spirit inspired many around her, including her granddaughter, Juliette Gordon Low, who founded the Girl Scouts of the USA in 1912. A biographer traces her adventures, and their importance to young people, especially girls.

Following Other Companies, McDonald's Raising Its Minimum Wage
Fast-food giant McDonald’s announced its raising wages for nearly 90,000 of the company’s employees. That means corporate owned stores will set the minimum at $1 above the local minimum wage, though owners of franchised McDonalds’ are exempt, and will still have control over setting wages. A business professor looks at why McDonald’s, and other companies, are pursuing this strategy.
