Heard On Route 51

On Thursday, November 20th at 10 am, Wausau’s own Anne Speckhard returns to WPR’s Route 51 to discuss her new book Undercover Jihadi: Inside the Toronto 18 – Al Qaeda Inspired, Homegrown Terrorism in the West. The book details the true story of Mubin Shaikh, a young Toronto man who infiltrated the Toronto 18, a terrorist group that planned to detonate car bombs in the city, behead the prime minister, and storm the Parliament Building.

Host Glen Moberg will ask Speckhard about the reasons young Western men join militant jihadi groups, and the similarities between the events in her book and the recent terrorist attack in Ottawa. Anne Speckhard is an adjunct professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University’s Center for Trauma and the Community. She appeared previously on Route 51 to discuss her book Talking to Terrorists: Understanding the Psycho-Social Motivations of Militant Jihadi Terrorists, Mass Hostage Takers, Suicide Bombers and Martyrs.
