On Thursday, November 13th at 10 am, Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 marks Veterans Week with Joe Murchison, a pioneering African American paratrooper who broke the U.S. Army color barrier in World War II. Murchison was a member of the 555th Parachute Infantry Company, known as the Triple Nickles, serving beside white soldiers before the Army was officially desegregated in 1948.
Murchison is appearing in central Wisconsin through the lecture series A Walk in Their Shoes, at 6:30 pm Monday, November 10th at Edgar High School, and at 6:30 pm Tuesday, November 11th at UW-Marathon County in Wausau.
Route 51 host Glen Moberg will moderate a discussion with Murchison and Tanya Lee Stone, author of Courage Has No Color, The True Story of the Triple Nickles.
