This Thursday, July 24th at 10 am, Route 51 remembers the life and career of central Wisconsin jazz legend and broadcasting pioneer, Sid Kyler, who performed his first gig in 1947, and who, in the 1950’s, created the Sir Seven knight-in-shining-armor mascot still used by WSAW-TV in Wausau today.Our guests will include surviving members of the Sid Kyler Dixieland Band, clarinetist Louis Pradt, bassist and guitarist Roger Pickering, and pianist Ray Kraemer to discuss Kyler’s influence on the central Wisconsin jazz scene, and perform live music in our Wisconsin Public Radio studios. The program will also feature interviews with Hall of Fame broadcasters, Walter John Chilsen and Mark Zelich, and Bull Falls Brewery co-owner, Don Zamzow. The fourth annual Sid Kyler River Valley Jazz Festival takes place this Friday and Saturday, July 25th and 26th at the Bull Falls Brewery in Wausau.
