Today nearly one third of all Americans are poor, or nearly poor. And one-in-three of those Americans are living in the suburbs. Communities around Dayton, Detroit, and Chicago have become home to low-income families pushed out of central cities by higher housing costs, restrictive zoning, and reinforced segregation.
