    • Milwaukee County Executive’s Office Releases John Doe Documents

The Milwaukee County Executive’s Office released on Friday documents from the first John Doe investigation that involved former aides and associates of Gov. Scott Walker when he was Milwaukee County executive. The release was 14 gigabytes of documents, including Microsoft Word documents, PDFs and spreadsheets. It also included pictures and Word documents saved on employees’ computer desktops, but not email accounts. Reporters, including WPR’s Shawn Johnson, are looking through the documents, which will take some time.

    • UW-Madison Receives Record Number Of Applications, While Rest Of System Sees Decline and Memo: Wisconsin Students Can’t Get Higher Ed Grants Because Of Depleted Funds

More than 30,000 people applied to be a part of University of Wisconsin-Madison’s freshman class this fall, a 2.5 percent increase from last year’s application numbers. Only two other four-year campuses in the UW System had a steady number or increase in number of applications. Experts attribute these numbers to demographics; there are fewer high school seniors than there were a few years ago. In other education news, a new memo released by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau showed about 41,000 people eligible for financial aid through the Wisconsin grants program didn’t get it because the program ran out of money. Democratic state Sen. Jennifer Shilling said this is because Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans in the Legislature have cut aid to higher education. On the other hand, a representative at the Higher Education Aids Board said the money funding the grants has stayed about the same, while demand is up.

    • Tuesday Marks 2nd Anniversary Of Sikh Temple Shooting In Oak Creek

    • What You Need To Know For Tuesday’s Primary Elections

The Government Accountability Board is reminding people of a few things for next Tuesday’s primary elections. People can register to vote at the polls on Tuesday, but they need to have a proof of residence document with updated name and address. An acceptable document includes a current Wisconsin drivers’ license or state-issued ID, a utility bill from the last 90 days, and a paycheck statement with name and address on it. People can find a full list of what’s acceptable on the GAB’s website.

Also, they won’t have to show a photo ID to vote in Tuesday’s elections. The Wisconsin Supreme Court recently ruled the state’s voter ID law is constitutional, but there’s a separate federal court order blocking it. The state Attorney General’s office is trying to get the photo ID law reistated, but it won’t be in place by Tuesday.
