April 10, 2014: Unemployment and WI’s Troubled Paper Industry

Air Date:
Heard On Route 51

This week we’ll focus on long term unemployment and North Central Wisconsin’s troubled paper industry, as closures and cutbacks devastate entire communities built around historic paper mills. Guests are: David Eckmann, Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Economic Development at UW-Stevens Point; and Cindy Kiesling, Executive Director of the Labor Education and Training Center. Eckmann is well versed on the impact of the paper industry on the regional economy. Kiesling works directly with those who have lost their jobs due to mill closures and cutbacks. The program was inspired by a recent Wisconsin Public Radio news story on the topic.
