Scott Walker, Sean Duffy Thank Wildfire Emergency Responders

By

Governor Scott Walker and Congressman Sean Duffy publicly thanked the people who contained the Germann Road wildfire.

Walker flew over the 9,000 acres burned out over the past two days by a wildfire, which at one point consumed three miles in 15 minutes at its height. Walker says he was grateful the firefighters were able to save 77 structures, and said that there was state help available for the 17 families whose homes were destroyed in the fire.

Appearing with Walker, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisc) added there might be federal help for homeowners.

Walker declared the fire area of Douglas and Bayfield Counties in a state of emergency late yesterday. While the fire here is not out – that will take another couple of days of mop-up – the emergency here has passed. About 10 fire departments out of the about 40 that responded are working in shifts to finish the job.
