Plummeting cold temperatures are causing crews shipping goods along the Mississippi River to move quickly before the water freezes over, at the same time forcing farmers to ship grains and other products by barge at a faster rate.

The western Wisconsin community of Independence could possibly strike a deal with two nearby towns to prevent them from filing a lawsuit challenging Independence’s recent annexation of a frac sand mine.
