INTENT
Exploring and presenting the finest Chicago and American blues to support the advancement of the genre for listeners now as well as generations to come.
HISTORY
Mary Flynn has been host of THE BLUE SIDE on WPR since April 4, 1988. The Blue Side mission is to present the enduring tradition of blues and emphasizes out of print, non-commercial, or hard-to-find music. The primary foundation is Chicago-style blues as well as blues from throughout the US and beyond.
Regular BLUE SIDE features include a weekly The New Side of THE BLUE SIDE featuring new releases; Blues News that promotes blues music events locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally; regular updates and information on blues artists; a holiday blues feature; and the annual Three Kings Show (Albert, BB, and Freddy) every January. Other featured shows include the Chicago Blues Fest, Lucerne (Switzerland) Blues Fest, and other blues festivals reviews, promotions, and features.
