Catch Friday's edition of Spectrum West! Here's a preview... Friday May 25, 2012: Gudrun's Kitchen, a cookbook about a Norwegian family with Wisconsin ties will be discussed on Spectrum West this week. Host Al Ross will talk with two of the contributors, Irene Sandvold and Ingeborg Hydle Baugh. Other topics will include the integration of writing and illustration in biology classes at UW-Stout, summer art camps offered at the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson and The ?Living Cemetery'- A special Memorial Day Presentation by Dunn County Historical Association. Jim Oliver also will talk with Terry Wiesner about the comedy A Bench in the Sun. Tune in this Friday, May 25 at 5 p.m. to 88.3 WHWC/Menomonie-Eau Claire and 88.7 WRFW/River Falls. Click on the link to go to our Facebook page! Spectrum West is a weekly live program exploring the music, arts and humanities in western Wisconsin. It includes in-depth and behind-the-scenes interviews and stories about area writers, musicians, theater, visual artists and much more. It keeps its listeners informed about changes, developments, growth and legislation that affect not only the arts, but its patrons. Each week, Spectrum West pursues its mission of explaining to people of all ages and communities of all sizes why the arts are important. Al Ross is the host of the program which also includes a regular calendar segment highlighting upcoming concerts and performances.Ross was born and raised in the Fox River Valley. He started his broadcast career in 1970 in Michigan. In 1983, Ross began writing/producing as Creative Director for Sundance Broadcasting in Milwaukee. He also hosted ?AM Milwaukee,? a morning talk show on WOKY. In 1988, Ross moved to Tampa, Florida and worked as a Creative Director for Cox Communications. Ross missed the four seasons of Wisconsin and moved back in 1990. He began working as Creative Director for Central Radio Group, what is now known as Maverick Media, in Eau Claire. In 1993, Ross began his own business as an independent producer. The program, which made its debut in 1994, received a Community Arts Development Award by the Wisconsin Assembly of Local Arts in 2001. In 1998, Spectrum West and Wisconsin Public Radio were given a Tributary Award by the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council for Excellence in Service to the Arts by a Business or Organization. |
