JAZZ, BLUES, AND BEYOND

November 14: Jazz, Blues and Beyond with host Joe Tierney will feature influential jazz small groups. Some of these include Miles Davis, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Dave Brubeck Quartet and many more. Tierney will also discuss how each group impacted jazz.
November 7: Jazz, Blues and Beyond with host Joe Tierney will feature modern big band Gordin Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. The group is based in Los Angeles and they combine elements of rock and funk as well as traditional big band elements. The group is known for appealing to a wide demographic of listeners because of their diverse sound.
October 31: Jazz, Blues and Beyond with host Joe Tierney will feature Maria Schneider, a big band composer/director and piano player. Schneider is recording/touring with her big band and she is an innovating component of the classical movement in big band music. Most of her music exhibits odd meters and instrumentation while still maintaining a classical feel. Schneider’s big band is very focused on improvisation.
October 24: Jazz, Blues and Beyond with host Joe Tierney will feature the genre of jazz. Tierney will play examples of the many different styles/sounds that are included in this genre. Some selections include bebop, big-band swing, free jazz, vocal jazz, funk, fusion and many more.
October 17: Jazz, Blues and Beyond with host Joe Tierney will feature music by the Tyler Anderson Quintet. The group, made up of UW-Eau Claire students, just released a new album entitled “Letting Go.” Tyler Anderson composed the album. Tierny will interview group members about the new album and the recording experience.
Jazz Blues and Beyond, broadcast from Haas Fine Arts Center on the UW–Eau Claire campus, is heard on 89.7 WUEC/Eau Claire Sunday nights at 5:00 p.m. during the regularly scheduled school semester.
