Some Sheboygan County residents are concerned about a new golf course being proposed by the Kohler Corporation that would be located on the shores of Lake Michigan, because of the traffic and environmental problems the course may create.
The town of Wilson’s Plan Commission meets on Monday night to discuss the proposed golf course, which would be on 250 acres owned by Herbert Kohler, Jr. and adjacent to the Kohler-Andrae State Park.
The “Friends of the Black River Forest” plan to turn out, though public comments won’t be taken during the Plan Commission meeting.

“We’re very aware that it is private land,” said Mary Faydash, a spokesperson for the group. “But we feel that our town has, within its role as protectors of our health and general welfare, to think about what the best use of that land is and to see if it fits within the comprehensive plan of our town.”
If approved, the new course would be the fifth Kohler-owned golf course in Sheboygan County.
Faydash says trees on the land would be clear cut.
“Kohler-Andrae — the beaches have to be periodically closed because of the water pollutants, E. coli,“ said Faydash. ”And golf courses have a severe impact on the environment.”
A spokesman from the Kohler Corporation’s hospitality division says the company is looking forward to meeting with Wilson’s Plan Commission to present information on the proposed golf course development.
