The National Working Families Party has launched an affiliate in Wisconsin and hired a Milwaukee County supervisor as its state leader.

The party, now active in nine states, describes itself as progressive with an interest in raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, expanding voter registration, fair policing and supporting public schools. Milwaukee County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic has just been hired as executive director of the Wisconsin Working Families Party.

She said the economy is broken: “The pursuit of the American dream, unfortunately, has become a little bit more difficult and out of the hands of working families.”

Dimitrijevic said big money and corporate interests have taken over in Wisconsin and she said the Working Families Party plans to speak out at events and recruit candidates for next year’s local elections.

Dimitrijevic said she remains a Democrat, but that the working families party has not yet endorsed any of the Democratic presidential candidates.
