Felica Moye - Norman talks to violinist Felicia Moye about the Peninsula Music Festival. Felicia Moye is currently Professor of Violin at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a member of Trio Antigo.
Moye has performed throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America as soloist and chamber musician with groups such as the Miami String Quartet, Orpheus and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. The 2011 Peninsula Music Festival is held on August 2-20 in the Door Community Auditorium, Fish Creek.

Calmus Ensemble - Norman welcomes Calmus Ensemble to perform live in the studio. Formed in 1999 in Leipzig, Germany, the Calmus Ensemble has five members: Anja Lipfert, Sebastian Krause, Tobias P che, Ludwig B hme, and Joe Roesler.
The repertoire of the Calmus Ensemble includes music of the Gregorian period, of Machaut, Palestrina, Bach, Verdi and contemporary sacred music, and, the great variety of profane music extending from madrigals to folksongs or rock.

San Francisco Piano Trio - Norman welcomes Jeffrey Sykes San Francisco Piano Trio to perform live in the Buck Studio. Jeffrey Sykes is co-founder of the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society and an accomplished performer and professor with national bona fides.
The newly-formed San Francisco Piano Trio, featuring German violinist Axel Strauss, French cellist Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and American pianist Jeffrey Sykes, has quickly established itself as a top-flight ensemble.

Leah Latorraca - Norman talks to violinist Leah Latorraca, 17, the second-place winner of the 2011 Bolz Young Artist Competition.
A senior at Madision La Follette High School, Ms. Latorraca studies with Desiree Ruhstrat in the Music Institute of Chicago's Academy Program. She most recently won the Soceity of American Musicians' Young Artist Competition and performed a recital for the Young Steinway Artists concert Series.

Samantha George and Stas Venglevski - Norman talks to Samantha George, Violin and Stas Venglevski, Russian Bayan (accordion) who performed at the 2011 Green Lake Festival of Music.
Currently Associate Professor of Violin at Lawrence University, Samantha George served as Associate Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra from 1999-2008. A native of the Republic of Moldova (part of the former Soviet Union) and an award-winning musician, Stas Venglevski has toured extensively as a soloist throughout the former Soviet Union, Canada, Europe, and the United States.

Ariela Bohrod - Norman welcomes young pianist Ariela Bohrod to The Midday where she performs in front of a live audience in the WPR Performance Studio.
She recently became the winner of the 2011 Bolz Young Artist Competition and was also the winner of the 2011 Interlochen Arts Academy Concerto Competition where she attends high school. She's been playing and performing for eleven years.

Oakwood Chamber Players - Norman's guest is Anne Aley, a member of the Oakwood Chamber Players.
They performed on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30pm the Oakwood Village Auditorium in Madison, and again on Sunday, May 22 at 1:30pm at the UW-Madison Arboretum they be played music by Fine, Stravinsky and Kodaly.

Daniel Kim - Norman talks to Violist Daniel Kim, one of the winners of 2011 Neale-Silva Young Artists' Competition. Hailing from St. Paul, Minnesota, Daniel Kim began his musical studies on the violin with his parents, Ellen and Young-Nam Kim. As he became exposed more and more to the soulful sound of the viola through chamber music and orchestra, he made the decision to study it seriously in high school by taking lessons from his hometown teacher, Sabina Thatcher. Currently he is a senior studying the viola with Professor Sally Chisholm at the UW-Madison where he is pursuing a BA in music performance as well as a Certificate in East Asian Studies.

Elizabeth Caballero - Norman talks to Cuban-American soprano Elizabeth Caballero who performed in Verdi's La Traviata with the Madison Opera on April 29 & May 1, 2011.
She played Violetta and recent performances in the role that had Opera News calling her "an excellent heroine... commanding and vulnerable by turns." Ms. Caballero made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2006.

Jeremy Denk - Pianist Jeremy Denk visits the WPR studios to talk about his concert at the Wisconsin Union Theater in Madison this evening. He'll be playing Charles Ives' Piano Sonata No. 1 and Bach's Goldberg Variations.
He graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory in piano and chemistry, earned a master's degree in music from Indiana University and a doctorate in piano performance from the Juilliard School. His widely-read blog, "Think Denk", is highly praised and frequently referenced by many in the music press and industry.

Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung - Pianists Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung, also husband and wife, talk to Norman about Farley's Piano-for-Four-Hands Concert on April 19th.
In 2005, the pair recorded Saint-Sa ns's Carnival of the Animals with conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. They have also recorded the complete works for two pianos and piano four hands of Gy rgy Ligeti on Dynamic Records. They reside in New York City.

Mike Leckrone - UW Band director Mike Leckrone visits the WPR studios to talk about the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin Marching Band.
Leckrone received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Butler University and has been the director of the University of Wisconsin Marching Band since 1969. He has composed or arranged many pieces, and over 200 of his compositions for marching and concert bands have been published.

Paul Badura-Skoda - Norman and Stephanie talk to pianist Paul Badura-Skoda who will be performing with the UW Madison Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 7:30pm at Mills Hall on the UW Campus.
On Saturday evening, March 12th, he appeared at Farley's House of Piano in Madison. Badura-Skoda was born in Vienna in 1927 and entered the Vienna Conservatory in 1945. In the 1960's, he was both the Brittingham Professor of Music at UW-Madison and an artist in residence for five years.

Simone Dinnerstein - Norman and Stephanie talk to pianist Simone Dinnerstein. She came to Madison to perform with the Madison Symphony Orchestra at Overture Center on February 18th.
She performed Bethoveen's "Emperor Concerto" as well as Bach's English Suite No. 3 in G minor. Dinnerstein made her New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 2005. Her new album "Bach: A Strange Beauty" was just released on Sony Classical.

Jim Latimer - Norman and Stephanie welcome Jim Latimer of The Madison Marimba Quartet. The ensemble will be performing at a free concert on Sunday, December 26th at 1pm in Mills Concert Hall located on the UW-Madison Campus.
They've been performing together for over 15 years. Members of the Quartet are Tim Gruber, Laura Guse, Jim Latimer and Tom Shaver.
