Walker Willing To Look At Gun Control, Mental Health Issues

Governor Scott Walker says he’s willing to look at a number of issues regarding gun control and mental health. It comes after Friday’s shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and two mass shooting’s earlier this year in Wisconsin.

Gov. Walker says there are a number of things that need to be looked at to get to the root of the violence, beginning with the Oak Creek shooting at the Sikh temple, “That’s one where you go back to tracking individuals dealing with mental illness, dealing with individuals who make statements like he made in the past and figuring out if there are better ways to predict that. In the case of Brookfield, again, it wasn’t so much the firearm as it was a failure of the domestic violence system. In each case, it’s trying to figure out ways to improve the system.”

Walker says Wisconsin does have strict gun laws in place compared to other states. People who have been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility are not able to purchase firearms.
