Republicans at the party’s state convention on Saturday heavily criticized a number of prominent Democrats at the national level, especially President Barack Obama.

On Saturday, Republican leaders blamed Obama for everything from alleged foreign policy mistakes to the slow-starting energy saving lights in the convention hall.

U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Menominee Falls, said that in a few days, House Republicans will zero in on a former Obama administration IRS official, Lois Lerner.

“A fellow Republicans, next week, the Republican Congress will find Lois Lerner in contempt,” said Sensenbrenner.

Republicans are angry that Lerner has refused to answer questions about the IRS holding up tax-exempt status for some Tea Party groups. Lerner maintains her innocence, and her lawyer says Lerner had the right under the Fifth Amendment to refuse to answer questions from Republican lawmakers.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc.,also led an attack on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who may be the leading contender for the White House two years from now.
