Gov. Scott Walker says he’s unfazed by a recent Marquette University poll that shows a virtual tie between him and his Democratic challenger Mary Burke among registered voters.

The two candidates are tied at 46 percent among registered voters; among likely voters, Walker leads Burke 48 percent to 45 percent, a difference that’s smaller than the poll’s margin of error.

Walker says his campaign team knew this would be a competitive race and that groups from across the country would be sending workers to mobilize voters, but he says he’s not worried and expects his record to carry him through.

“I think voters look at that record, look at those facts and say, ‘The only time we were worse off than the nation when it comes to unemployment rates was when (Burke) was working for Governor Doyle in his past terms as governor,’” said Walker.

With the November election still six months away, Walker says he doesn’t put much stock in polls anyway, and that the only poll that matters is Election Day.
