Two new bus routes have launched in Milwaukee connecting the inner city to the suburbs of Menomonee Falls, New Berlin and Germantown.
The new routes come as part of a $13 million settlement in a lawsuit filed against state and federal transportation agencies.
Willie Brisco is president of the Milwaukee Innercity Congregations Allied for Hope, one of the groups that sued. He said it’s vital to help racial minorities in Milwaukee get to jobs and shopping centers in the mostly white suburbs.

“This is the first effort in a common-sense proposal to make communities joined and linked together throughout the state,” said Brisco. “We cannot continue to be the most segregated state in the union. We cannot consider ourselves to be Americans until we are all linked together. Transit has to be the answer.”
Brisco also said the new buses bring southeastern Wisconsin closer to a regional approach to transit.
The Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin will hold a job fair in Milwaukee next week for suburban businesses with employment opportunities.
