Madison Emergency Responders Will Simulate Bombing At Camp Randall On Thursday

There will be a simulation of a bombing at Camp Randall in Madison on Thursday.

The emergency management exercise will involve 400 people from federal, state and local agencies, including the FBI, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, University of Wisconsin-Madison campus police, and Madison’s fire and police departments.

Marc Lovicott, public information officer for UW-Madison’s Police Department, said the exercise will begin at 5 a.m. and go all day.

“We’re trying to minimize our impact on campus and downtown as much as we can,” said Lovicott. “Folks can expect the 1400 block of Monroe Street between Regent and Randall to be closed from 5 a.m to 5 p.m., and they can expect the area surrounding the east side of Camp Randall to be cordoned off as emergency responders react to this emergency simulation.“

Local officials have been planning the simulation, which is in part a response to events like the Boston Marathon bombing, for over a year.
