U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore was victorious in Tuesday night’s Democratic primary and November contest for the 4th Congressional District in Milwaukee is now set. But, the Democratic incumbent said that her real opponent is Gov. Scott Walker.

Moore held off a primary challenge from former state Sen. Gary George. Moore said she won because she took George seriously.

“We mailed, we called, we used the radio and we did door knocking — the Democratic Party and our volunteers,” she said. “So, we did not take it for granted.”

George was previously a long-time senator, and also once ran an unsuccessful campaign for governor in 2002. However, he was recalled in 2003, and later served four years in federal prison for taking kickbacks from a social service agency. His campaign for Moore’s seat in Congress had been his attempt at a political comeback.

But, it doesn’t appear Moore will take seriously the fall campaign against the winner of the 4th District Republican primary: Dan Sebring. She easily defeated Sebring in 2010 and 2012.

So, Moore is setting her sights on helping fellow Democrat Mary Burke defeat Walker, a Republican, in the governor’s race.

“I am going to spend a lot of time, be at her service to campaign in the fall,” Moore said. “I’m not going to engage Mr. Sebring.”

Sebring has been attacking Moore on topics like the Affordable Care Act, deficit spending and job creation.
