Hunting-In-Parks Opponents Make Their Case To DNR Board

Most of the people testifying at the D-N-R Board this afternoon are opposing a plan to expand hunting and trapping in Wisconsin state parks.

The DNR Board may act this evening on rules triggered by a new law signed by Governor Walker, ordering most state parks and trails be open to hunting and trapping.Hunting and trapping groups that have testified today say they generally support the proposed DNR rules. But parks friends groups, park neighbors, skiers, bikers, and other silent sports activists have pleaded with the DNR Board to either try to block the law from taking effect, or to add more parks to a list where hunting and trapping won’t be allowed.Those include places like Roche-a-Cri and High Cliff State Parks, and parks in Door County.A representative of the National Park Service is also raisingconcerns about the law’s potential impact on the Ice Age Scenic Trail.More than 50 people are testifying at today’s meeting.
