A Green Bay police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in an April arrest.

The arrest happened in the early hours of April 19, just as bars in downtown Green Bay were closing. Joshua Wenzel was arrested for disorderly conduct after Officer Derek Wicklund pushed him up against a squad car and threw him to the ground.

Wicklund has had several complaints filed against him over his career. This time, the Green Bay Police Department and the state Department of Justice said his actions that night conformed with standards and training.

“So everyone’s seen that video — it’s the one that went public,” said GBPD spokesman Chad Ramos. “We had the privilege of looking at a number of different videos, one of which was from Stirrups.”

Stirrups is one of the bars next to where the arrest took place.

At a press conference on Tuesday, police showed two surveillance videos from nearby bars and one from a squad car dash cam. The Green Bay Police Department has posted videos of the press conference on social media.

Wicklund will return to his downtown beat.
