Former Assembly Majority Leader Kramer Charged With Sexual Assault

Former Wisconsin Assembly Majority Leader Bill Kramer faces a second-degree sexual assault charge stemming from an incident in 2011 at a Republican fundraiser in Muskego.

According to a complaint filed by the Muskego Police Department on March 5 of this year, a woman identified only as D.R. told Detective Stephen Westphal that Kramer had kissed and groped her against her will in April of 2011 outside the High Tide Pub after a “pints and politics” event. D.R. told the detective she works for a state senator and is a member of the Republican Party.

She said Kramer pushed her up against her car, told her he wanted to have sex with her, and began groping her. She said that she fought Kramer off and went home. Kramer has denied groping her, but told the detective he may have kissed her at a different event.

She eventually sought professional help following the incident and decided not to press charges then because she didn’t want to embarrass the party. But after hearing of similar allegations brought against Kramer for groping other women at a party event in Washington, D.C., earlier this month, she decided to file a complaint.

Kramer has sought therapy since those allegations became public and has been stripped of his leadership role in the Assembly. He is scheduled for a court hearing on the Muskego charges on April 14.
