Dangerously Cold Weather Expected Across Wisconsin Monday Night

The cold has returned in full force as an arctic air mass takes a hold on Wisconsin yet again.

The National Weather Service said temperatures will continue to drop on Monday afternoon. Sullivan-based meteorologist Marcia Cronce said by Monday night, conditions will be quite unsavory.

“With clear skies and bitterly cold artic air overhead, our temperatures will drop quickly this evening and overnight with low temperatures in the minus 20s across most of the state,” she said.

Southern Wisconsin will have temperatures between minus 15 degrees and minus 24 degrees, while in northwest Wisconsin temperatures will be between minus 28 and minus 30 degrees.

Cronce said those temperatures combined with a westerly wind will make for dangerous conditions, with wind chills across Wisconsin of minus 35 degrees to minus 50 degrees.

The NWS said wind chills that low can cause frostbite on exposed skin in 10 minutes or less. The dangerously cold conditions are forecast for the state through Wednesday morning.
