Democratic candidate for governor Mary Burke says Gov. Scott Walker doesn’t care about most Wisconsin residents.

A recent Marquette University Poll found that 51 percent of respondents believed Walker didn’t care about them, while only 43 percent said he does care.

At a Democratic party dinner in Milwaukee Saturday night, Burke, listed some actions that she claims show Walker doesn’t care.

“If he cared, do you think he would call a raise in the minimum wage so that hard-working people can better support themselves, call it ‘a political gimmick?’” Burke asked.

Burke also listed Walker’s actions on pay equity, voucher school tuition, abortion rights, early voting and high-speed rail. The Marquette poll showed 36 percent believe Burke cares about them. 29 percent said she doesn’t, with 34 percent saying they don’t know.

Burke’s message: she does care. “I’m listening,” she said at the dinner. “I hear your voices, and I care.”

Walker is expected to address the care issue when he formally launches his re-election bid Tuesday.
