Baldwin On Affordable Care Act: ‘There Will Be Bumps Along The Way’

By

Sen. Tammy Baldwin says that she believes President Barack Obama’s administration is delaying some implementation the Affordable Care Act because it feels they need more time to get it right.

“We need to make this work, and I think about what an enormous undertaking it is,” said Baldwin at the University of Wisconsin-Madison today. “We recognize that there will be bumps along the way.”

She says that like many others, she was surprised by Tuesday’s announcement that businesses with more than 50 employees will now have an extra year – until the end of 2015 – to provide health insurance to their workers or pay a penalty.

Baldwin says she expects to get a full briefing on the issue when lawmakers return from the July 4 recess. The announcement of the delay came after businesses complained that they needed more time to implement the employer mandate.
